Everything is Better with a Pocket

I do like pockets. When I am making a garment for myself and the pattern does not have a pocket, yeah - I add it in! So when I saw a cute pincushion on Pinterest with a pocket, I had to make one.

I had a bit of embroidered cotton that had a few stains and could no longer be used as a table cover, so I cut a bit of it up to use for the pocket. After I used this a while, I was very happy with it except for one thing - I thought that if I had stuffed it a bit less densely, EVERYTHING would fit in the pocket: the thimble, the scissors and even a spool of thread.
So I set out to try again. If you like this, make one for yourself!

First cut a front and a back 5" X 6".
For the pocket I used two pieces sewn together. So the end measurement was 4" X 5".

Hem the top of the pocket, and add trim if you like.

I thought about blue ric rac, but decided to attach red trim by hand later.

After you insert a little ribbon tab, put all the pieces right sides together and sew. Leave a part open so you can turn and stuff it.

Trim the corners

Turn and add any hand sewing before you stuff it. I added the red trim.

Stuff it. As I mentioned above, I stuffed this one much more loosely than the last one I made.
Hand sew the opening shut.

And there we go! The thread does indeed fit in. I can take this little square along when I need to do some hand work, and not have to wonder where the pins/scissors/thread/thimble/clips might possibly be!!!

The perfect take along for hand work!
