"A mask tells us more than a face" - Oscar Wilde

Well, here we are at our new look! For now anyway. I am not sure if what old Oscar said is true or not, but making these masks has sure been fun - using up fabric pieces. That is, until you run out of elastic, right? I have made a lot of these for use by members of the community. I have also made a ton for health care, but used a different pattern. I like these best, for me at least.

This is the pattern I have been using for community masks.

Trace two pieces of fabric, right sides together. Do the same for the lining. So, your line should be on the wrong side of the fabric.

When you cut it out you need to add a seam allowance - don't cut on the line you drew.

See? You need one set for the mask, and one set for the inside (lining) of the mask.

Sew here first. Just this side.

Clip, turn and press. I sometimes use a pinking shear instead of clipping. Here you see the mask and the lining.

Now nestle the two pieces together, and sew almost all the way around.

Leave only a small spot, so you can turn it right side out.

Turning is in fact the very next step! A stick or crochet hook is helpful to get the corners squared. Now press it.

Now top stitch all the way around. This will close up that gap you used to turn it right side out.

Press and then sew the two ends so that you can pass the elastic through.

Measure 2 lengths of elastic - each 10 inches.

Feed it through the ends, tie together, and work the tied sections to the inside.

And it is done! Now, wear it in good health!
