Blown Away

Here is something I have always wanted to try - blowing out an egg, to leave an empty shell. Then, I saw these eggs on line, that people Mod Podge paper napkins onto, to make a pretty Easter egg, and I had to try it.
So, I looked on line and found a nice video on how to blow these eggs out. The first thing I did is to wash my eggs. I buy my eggs from my friend who has the happiest hens in the county, so I needed to be sure they were clean before this process. (She gives me the prettiest eggs! Some are brown, some are speckled, and some are blue!)

After also cleaning a nail from my husband's workshop, I made a small hole in each end of the egg. This effort varies, it turns out. Some eggs are easier than others.

After the nail hole is made, I put a toothpick, and moved it around, in to stir up the yolk.

Then, BLOW! This is harder than I imagined it would be!

The egg comes out, and the shell is left. Next, rinse the egg out. I left them on the windowsill to dry for a week or so.
I did not want to go buy any paper napkins, so I looked through the ones I had on hand. I buy these from time to time for little get togethers.

I guess these are not very Easter-y!

These will work! (Well, not the "Holy Crap" part!)

For each design, I cut the napkins, and began the process of applying to the eggs.

Much messier than I imagined, and it took all of one morning to do about 10 eggs!

As I did not plan ahead, there I was with an messy completed egg, and no where to put it. I needed a drying spot. After walking around the kitchen a while, holding the messy egg, I found this ice cube tray. Perfect! After a day of drying, I added a second coat of Modge Podge.

Done! Happy Easter!
