Keeping hands warm in winter.. that is why we should all carry a muff. But, not all that pracitcal, I guess, when you have to drive a car, carry groceries, answer a phone, etc.
Recently I saw some images online of gloves with writing on them. The writing was a two word phrase, one for each hand. I thought these would made a cute homemade Christmas gift!

I love giving home made things at Christmas. Your gift carries with it the time you took to make it, all the while thinking of the friend who will receive the gift.
So, with these gloves, the idea is to stitch two four-letter words on the fingers of warm gloves, leaving the thumb out. ( Sorry, thumb! You are not a part of the fun!)

These are some that I initially saw online. I searched, but was unable to find exact instructions on how to do this. So, I made it up as I went along. One thing I decided was that the lettering should face out, rather than these, where the lettering faces the person wearing the gloves. That way, you can express yourself to the world!

First, to the Dollar Store for gloves. I was amazed to find a pack of two pair of gloves for $1! Unfortunately, this amazing price did not have the advantage of a large color selection. There was a charcoal, a purple and a pink. So, that is what I bought.
Then, I started thinking of what words to use.

First, I did a practice pair using "hope" and "love" as the words. I first tried embroidering the words on with embroidery thread, but that did not work at all. You could not see the letters, as the thread kind of got lost in the knit gloves.
So, using a fine yarn that I had in my sewing room, I tried again. I found it was helpful to slide a piece of finger-shaped cardboard into the finger part I was working on, so that I did not sew the finger of the glove closed!

"Book Nerd" - This pair, for my friend who loves to read.

"Home Body" - This pair is for my sister, who loves to be at home (as do I!)

My daughter has a consulting business called Fed By Kiwi, but (as you can see) - TOO MANY LETTERS! So, I put the word "by" on the index finger of the right hand glove.

This needle was very handy in this project. A friend, and fellow sewist/crafter gave it to me. You don't have to thread the large yarn through the eye of the needle. Just slide it in the little part that gives way, and there you have it!
Now, in all honesty, I am not sure that gloves that cost 50 cents are actually going to keep anyone very warm, or wear very well over time. But the fun was making them, and choosing just the right phrase to make the gloves truly individualized!
