My Holiday Ba(r)king

I started making my own dog cookies only for special occasions - read that to say "Christmas"! I would bake a big batch, and give them as gifts to all my my friends and family with dogs in their homes. I have done this for years and years, and so have tried many recipes for the treats.

When I retired, I had a bit more time (Yay!), and I thought I should make my dogs all of their everyday treats. Why would I do that? Well, I will tell you why - first, I have the time. Second, this way I know what is in the treats they are getting. And, it is easy, and fun to do.

See? They like these every day homemade treats!

So, it took a bit of time to develop my own recipe for every day treats. I was looking for a treat that would last a long time without refrigeration. I also wanted one made of ingredients I usually had on hand.

If you want to make these (recipe below), you only mix the dry ingredients in one bowl, and the liquid in another. Then, combine the two. Roll out the dough, and cut with the cookie cutters. Bake them for two hours at 300 degrees F. Then, after the two hours, you have to turn the oven off, and leave them in the oven overnight, so they will dry and harden.

This recipe makes a LOT of treats! How many depends on the size of your cookie cutter.

I use this little round cookie cutter for everyday treats. I think it was part of an alphabet cutter at one time. It used to be the "o"!

Now that it is the Christmas season again, I set out to make the usual holiday batch. But, now I have a new problem... how to make the treats special, as all Christmas treats should be.

The answer! A special cookie cutter, one that all dogs will appreciate. A CAT cookie cutter!

Every dog secretly wants to eat a cat!

I package them up nice, and the tag will always read "From Tigger and Kira"

Many dogs have allergies, so I always include the ingredients on a tag.

Here is my recipe for these treats. They store really well, which is a big selling point for me!
